Carinthia is the southernmost provincial state of Austria, framed by Salzburg and Osttirol in the west, Styria in the northeast, and Slovenia and Italy in the south. Its population is approx. half a million, more than 90.000 live in the Capital Klagenfurt.
Carinthia is the land of mountains and lakes: many peaks are higher than 3.000 meters (e.g. the highest mountain in Austria – the Großglockner with 3.798 m), there are more than one thousand lakes and more than half the state’s area is covered by forests.
Carinthia is a very popular holiday destination – mainly for Germans and Austrians, who love to visit its crystal clear lakes.
