Ven. Achok Rinpoche

Achok Rinpoche was born in 1944 in Amdo region in Tibet and recognized as the reincarnation of Amchok Rinpoche. By the age of 13 he went to Lhasa for further traditional monastic education. 1959 he left Tibet and took refugee in India.

He spent the first 10 years in Buxaduar with 1500 monks from the three great pillars: Gaden, Sera and Drepung Monastery. Achok Rinpoche received the Acharya degree in 1971 in Varanasi and became the first abbot of Tashikyil Monastery in Dehradun.

1977 he took the Geshe Lharampa examination in Mundgod, South India and worked as Librarian at the Tibetan Library (LTWA). From 1980 till 1982 he worked 2 years at the Institute for Tibetology and Buddhism at Vienna University.

He set a project of reconstruction of Amchok Tsanny monastery in Amdo region in 1983.
At the request of HH the Dalai Lama and late Panchen Lama he worked 1987 for one year at the School of reincarnated Tibetan lamas in Beijing, China.

1988-1989 he became director of TMIA in Dharamsala.

In 1994 Achok Rinpoche became Abbot of Gaden Shartse in South India.

In 1996 he worked at the private office of HH for as head of official biography of HH the Dalai Lama.
From 1998-2005 he was the director of LTWA and was the first person to set up a science education program for the great Monasteries in India.

He retired at age of 61 and is still working on compiling the teachings of HH 14th Dalai Lama.
