Wisdom Quotes

"The sage do not wash away sins with water, neither do they remove sentient beings‘ suffering with their hands; nor can they transfer their own realisations to others. They liberate beings by revealing the truth of suchness."

Lord Buddha

About Us

Tibet Center Institute was founded by His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, Ven. Geshe Tenzin Dhargye and the Tibet Office Geneva with the support of the Carinthian State Government in 2008 and is since then under the special patronage of HH the Dalai Lama. In 2005, His Holiness the Dalai Lama had accepted to support the project presented by the Carinthian state government and Huttenberg municipality. So His Holiness nominated Lama Geshe Tenzin Dhargye as director and teacher of Tibet Center Institute and gave him the full responsibility for the project that was realized and established as a non-profit association, recognized by Austrian law.

We offer an education program - courses, seminars, lectures, etc. - on authentic Tibetan knowledge and culture at very reasonable prices, in order to create benefit for as many people as possible. Our program’s aim is to benefit the mental and physical wellbeing of society as well as the development of happiness and peace in the world. Tibet Center Institute is open to everyone who is interested in and wants to explore the Tibetan culture. We also aim to bring together different cultures and to serve as a platform for the dialogue between different religions, cultures and worldviews.

His Holiness has visited Tibet Center Institute, Hüttenberg, several times. On one occasion he said:  “There is a great deal in Tibet's culture that can be of widespread benefit to others. Tibetan culture places great store in compassion and non-violence. It is because of these essential humane values that I feel that we Tibetans have a contribution to make to peace in the world. The Tibet Center in Hüttenberg, Austria, focuses on the promotion of these basic human values through all of its educational programs and the courses it offers in the Tibetan medical system. It also provides opportunities for developing greater inter-faith and inter-cultural understanding and respect. I am therefore very happy to give the Hüttenberg Tibet Center and its activities my full support and I wish it every success in its future work.“

This Institution is dedicated to realize the wishes of H.H. the Dalai Lama to promote human values, share Buddhist culture by offering an education program at an academic and secular level. Therefore it is unique in Europe as it is the only institution that offers training in the five major Tibetan Rigne or 10 Rigne (fields of Tibetan knowledge) on an academic level. In close cooperation with the University of Tibetan Studies in Sarnath, India, and the Tibetan Medical & Astrology Institute (Men-Tsee-Khang) Tibet Center Institute offers its participants after successful completion of  diploma courses certificates that are issued jointly with these institutions.
